Massage Therapy
A massage therapist is someone who treats clients by using touch to manipulate the soft-tissue muscles of the body. With their touch, massage therapists relieve pain, rehabilitate injuries, reduce stress, increase relaxation, and aid in the general wellness of their clients.
Becoming a Registered Massage Therapist in Ontario requires further education, and courses are offered in two environments, Community Colleges and Private Career Colleges. Community Colleges often offer the courses over 6 semesters or three years, although there is some variation, while courses in Private Career Colleges may be as short as 18 months or as long as three years depending on the school and course configuration.
All courses must meet the competency standards for the profession established by the College of Massage Therapist of Ontario. All graduates from RMT programs must pass the registration examinations offered by the College in order to practice as a Registered Massage Therapist in Ontario.
Only individuals who are registered with the CMTO are permitted to use the title Registered Massage Therapist or Massage Therapist, and indicate that they provide massage therapy services.
Reflexology
Reflexology is the study of reflexes. Reflexology therapies are natural therapeutic methods derived from this study based on the principle that there are reflexes in the body that map to other parts, glands, and organs of the body. Through the application of pressure on these reflexes, reflexology therapy can: relieve tension, improve circulation, and support the body's efforts to function optimally. Reflexology helps to manage many common ailments such as: musculoskeletal pain; insomnia; anxiety; stress; and
hormonal and digestive issues to name a few. Unlike other therapies which manipulate bones or muscle tissues, Reflexology can provide much needed relief through working the body reflex that ails you on a part of the body that does not.
